Movie Review: Man Of Steel.

Here's my first attempt this year of a movie review. My first movie I'm going to review as the title says is Man Of Steel. When I first heard of the movie I was hesitant. I heard Henry Cavill wasn't even American. I know that sounds bad but Superman is an all American hero. DC Comics published the original Superman comics starting in 1938. He was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Zack Snyder directed this movie. He is also known for 300 and Sucker Punch among others.

I started watching all the trailers I could find for this movie. I found one where Jonathan Kent tells a young Clark Kent that maybe he should have let the kids die. That statement blew my mind. Every single Superman movie, comic or show always has Superman as the savior. He saves everyone. So I knew this movie would be taking a different darker direction. The movie stars Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Kal-El, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Russell Crowe as Jor-El and Michael Shannon as General Zod. The cast list is very long and but well thought out.

I won't give anything away in this review. This movie was well done. It was an interesting take on the story of Superman from beginning to end. It was interesting to see what characters Superman is known for didn't make it into the movie and what ones did. Obviously there will be a Man of Steel 2 and that will add more characters to the list from the Superman universe. This movie makes you get to know the character of Superman again. It makes you feel like you know the struggles he's going through. I thought this movie was amazing and I can't wait for part two.

This is the first time I can remember a movie for Superman has shown, in detail Krypton. We finally get to see the advanced technology and civilization. Jor-El is a rule breaker. We can see in the movie where Clark gets it from. In this movie Jonathan Kent in stills that Clark will have the weight of the world on his shoulders.

The digital effects are amazing. There is throwbacks to earlier adaptations of Superman. Faster then a speeding bullet for instance. I do wish they would have made Superman stronger, in the sense of being able to lift things or throw things. When you think of Superman, you think of the strongest person the planet has ever seen. He's basically a god amongst humans. They did convey that but I feel they could have done a little more to hit that fact home. This still is one of the best Superman movies I have ever seen. I really hope that part two lives up to the first or blows the first out of the water. Below is a trailer for the movie. Check it out and then check out the movie Man Of Steel. Relive some childhood memories for a little bit and have fun. Till next time

Midweek update.

Well I accomplished some goals I set last week for the midweek update. I finished my movie review for the Man Of Steel, you can check that out here. That took way to long to do. I'm gonna work on it not taking so long for the next one. I wrote an equivalent to a paragraph for a short story I hadn't written on in over five months. That's good news in itself. So the breakdown is: keep working on my four short story's, work on a new movie review and take more pictures for cellphone pic Thursday. Getting something finished is awesome. The movie review could have been better but I am glad it was okay. So new goals. Check. Till next time.

Midweek update.

This is the first one of these I'm going to be doing from now on. The midweek update will let me write down my projects I have for my blog. I keep all these things in my head and I feel it will be easier to do it this way. Obviously some weeks, will have the same projects listed, but it still will help me in the long run. I won't be naming the names I have for specific projects, rather just list like story or review. So let's get into it. First up I have four short story's I'm working on. One story for sure will not be done until closer to the end of the year because of the content in it. The other three can be finished whenever I finish them. Now I just need to get going and finish them. Ha ha. I have a movie review I'm working on. This one is taking me longer than anticipated because of the movie itself. I love the movie and the characters. I just want to make sure I convey what in trying to say about it because I love movies very much. As always there will continue to be cellphone pic Thursday. I actually have quite a few lined up. Weekend reviews will be coming back. I just need something more entertaining than went grocery shopping for the review. Ha ha. So when I actually do something cool I will write about it. Side note, one of my stories I'm writing, how I started it, actually happened. That was really, really crazy. I'm glad the story didn't play out but damn. I feel this midweek update went well. I will leave you with a random picture that I liked.

 Till next time.

Score from Blockbuster.

Unfortunately, Blockbuster is going out of business. I remember all of the times I have gone to Blockbuster and rented movies or games all weekend long. We would order a pizza and two liter and make popcorn. This was our weekend. When I pass by Blockbuster it still does fill me with memories. We were running a few errands on the weekend and Melissa saw the going out of business sign for Blockbuster and said, "Hey, do you want to go check that out? They say DVD's for $1.49." I said, "Hell yeah." Off we went. I was like a kid in a candy store. Moving from shelf to shelf, section to section, furiously sorting through the movies just to find the perfect one. I eventually had a hand full of movies. I counted them up and 20 was the number for the DVD's. We got two Blu-ray movies also. We checked out. Of course the cashier rang it up wrong and we were actually charged five extra bucks for the pile of movies. But I was okay with it, because look at the score:
  1. Green Lantern
  2. Street Fighter The Legend Of Chun-Li
  3. Final Destination 3
  4. Piranha DD
  5. Lawless
  6. Warm Bodies
  7. Wanted
  8. Minority Report
  9. Machete
  10. Friends With Benefits
  11. Hanna
  12. Halloween II (2009)
  13. Casino Royale (2006)
  14. Hostel
  15. Land Of The Dead (2005)
  16. Chloe
  17. Cowboys & Aliens
  18. Day Of The Dead (2007)
  19. The Last Airbender
  20. Super 8
  21. Gnomeo And Juliet
  22. The Purge

The super creative picture I took to show, there wasn't any DVD art.

Now the catch was, the DVD's were in cardboard sleeves, not cases with the graphic inserts. I had bought a couple movies from Blockbuster before without DVD art. I just decided to print off the art on a printer and call it good. The second catch, the printer was black and white. Oh well, if you look at the picture below, it actually doesn't look to bad. At least you can find them on the shelf.

Not a filter. The printer I could use was black and white only.

So bottom line, is it better to score movies for like five bucks a piece or one dollar if you buy 10 without DVD art? I say both actually but I couldn't pass this up. So a dollar for the movie and a dollar for the case and basically free DVD art equals a score. Go treasure hunting and you might end up with treasure.Till next time.

Video Games I finished In 2013.

At the beginning of a new year, you have to look back the accomplishments you made. Well it is time for me to look back at the video games I've actual finished. This is a rarity to me. I get video games when I can but it's not all the time. Now the time I actually get to play said games is even rarer. So when I buy I game or games I play them as much as I can and hopefully they get finished. Here is a list of my finished games for 2013.

Portal
Portal 2
Call Of Duty Black Ops 2 (Campaign)
Call Of Duty Ghosts (Campaign)
Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 3 (Campaign)
Battlefield 3 (Campaign)

I think that is a pretty good list of finished games for myself at least. I am going to work harder on completing games. I want to make a new year resolution of picking up old games and finishing them. I still have Red Dead Redemption, GTA IV Add ons, Battlefield 4, Army Of Two: The 40th Day, Medal Of Honor Warfighter, Saints Row 2, Saints Row The Third, Saints Row IV and Devil May Cry HD Collection to name a few. Basically I should stop writing down all of the games I haven't completed. I'm getting depressed. Well here is to new year resolutions that can actually be obtained. Till next time.

Top 13 of 2013.

This is not in order but here is my top 13 of 2013.

 1 The EMP Museum.

 2 Snoqualmie Falls.

3 The Ice Caves and The Fish Ladder

 4 Picnic Point.

 5. Beth's Cafe.

 6. The Gum Wall.

 7. The Junk In The Trunk Show.

This whole bundle was 20 bucks.

 8. Our new barbecue.

 9. Some cool pictures for the year.

10. Our anniversary. 13 years being together, married for three of them.

 11. Motivational pictures. Everyone needs some motivation. I found these.

I really truly like this one. If you have kept up with my blog in the least you know I really hate fake friends and bullshit family. I would rather be by myself than have fake friends and family.

 12. This was a hard one to pick for me. There was a lot of things that could be my top. Well I decided to pick music as one of my tops. There's not a year that has went by since I could remember that didn't have a favorite or a top song for that year. Now these might have came out in a different year but they were influential and I found them in 2013. So without further ado:

Rihanna - Stay
Rihanna - Diamonds
Imagine Dragons - Radioactive
Lorde - Royals
Benny Benassi - Cinema Skrillex remix
Eminem - Survival
Drake - Take Care featuring Rihanna
Pitbull - Give Me Everything featuring Ne-Yo
Foreign Beggars - Typhoon featuring Chasing Shadows

I could fill this list with many of these so I just put a few.

 13. Me writing a full length story. I worked very hard on writing, character development, plot lines. This was the one of the hardest things I have ever written. Yes, I did write some other short story's but nothing like this. It ended up being 12 chapters. 14 actual story's. That's crazy to me. I poured my whole heart and soul into that story. My wish for 2014 is to somehow have it made into a digital movie or an animated movie. Please check it out here.

 14. When I first wrote this post I forgot to even mention movies. I love movies, movies are my life basically. Again you can't go a year without a movie impacting your life or at least letting you lose reality for an hour or so. In no order these are my top movies of 2013.

Pacific Rim
Man Of Steel
Despicable Me 2
Monsters University
The Wolverine
Star Trek Into Darkness
Iron Man 3
Fast And Furious 6
World War Z
Oz: The Great And Powerful
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Carrie (2013)

This list could go on for awhile. Honorable mentions I found some anime that I liked. They weren't from 2013 but I still liked them.

Other things from 2013 that were on my top list. My modified Xbox 360 controller I got for my birthday.

I know this one will stir up stuff for everyone. This my opinion and mine alone.

There were a lot of up's and downs in 2013. I was so proud of Melissa and I, for breaking down some mental boundaries with all of our Summer adventures. We hiked three miles to see the amazing Ice Caves. We are even considering going back and hiking the other trail we passed the first time. We made strides for eating and being more healthy. We will do even more this year.

Time changes, seasons change. The only thing that never changes is your memories. Go out and make some memories so you can have something to write about in the new year. One of my new year resolutions is more blogs. I need to make time to write down all of these things I have in my head. Welcome to a new year. Yes I know this is late but better late then never. Till next time.
